Under this system, companies are able to purchase allowances to offset the pollution they expect to emit over a given period.
All the revenues generated through the sale of these allowances go directly into government coffers and are then dedicated to green energy projects.
According to the list obtained by National Observer, the 227 cancelled projects amounted to about $1.88 billion allocated to projects in municipalities.
