Mod distributor Nexus Mods is facing a surge in traffic on its website due to the popularity of the Fallout TV series.

Nexus Mods has shared a post regarding degradation of services across the website and corresponding applications as a result of heavy traffic caused by the popularity of the Fallout TV series. The back-end development team has deployed extra resources where possible and is monitoring the uptime and performance across the network. It mentioned that staff is available on call at all times to deal with any potential issues.

The Nexus Mods back-end development team later shared an update, in which it confirmed that the team is aware of impacted performance, and has been investigating ways to resolve the issue.

The Fallout TV series has sparked renewed interest in Fallout games, leading to Fallout 4 climbing to the top 30 on Steam. The game reached a 24-hour peak player count of 35,364 on Steam after a surge in interest coming from the release of the Fallout TV series. The upcoming “next-gen” update on April 25, 2024, is expected to further increase the player count. Matt Piscatella from Circana (NPD) noted that Fallout 76 is currently experiencing its highest level of engagement on Xbox Series consoles, based on Circana’s Player Engagement Tracker data since October 2022.

Those expecting Bethesda Game Studios to try and cash in on the series’ newfound popularity by releasing a new Fallout game sometime soon will be disappointing, as the developer expects a Fallout 5 to happen many years later. On Twitter/X, Studio Design Director at Bethesda Game Studios, Emil Pagliarulo, was asked about the long wait until the release of Fallout 5 and the part of the development process that takes up a majority of the time for the development team. He began his explanation by stating that it’s a complicated question. Read about it here.

The day I went to pull the trigger on fallout4 the sale ended. As long as they don’t revamp the build every so often killing mods like they did with skyrim I will be happy.
