Remedy Entertainment is now in a better negotiating position with publishers after the success of Control and Alan Wake 2.

In its latest post on its official website, Remedy Entertainment revealed that it is currently in a better negotiating position than before with potential publishers, as Control is an established brand and Alan Wake 2 has been successful.

The studio and 505 Games have come to an agreement after which all publishing, distribution, marketing and other rights to Control, codename Condor, Control 2, and all future Control products will revert to Remedy. As per Remedy Entertainment, the Control franchise is in the studio’s core. Having acquired the full rights to Control, Condor and Control 2, Remedy stated that it is now in a position to make the right product and business decisions focusing on long-term franchise growth.

The maximum purchase price for the transaction is approximately EUR 17 million, which matches what 505 Games has invested in the development of codename Condor and Control 2, plus a slight premium. Remedy has the right to offset certain receivables from this amount, meaning the actual cash flow impact will be lower. The company will make three cash payments for the net purchase price over the course of the next year.

This transaction will enhance the studio’s ability to negotiate favorable deals for current and future Control titles. The company now has the flexibility to consider self-publishing or partnering with a new publisher for both Condor and Control 2. With Control established as a successful brand and Alan Wake 2 achieving success, Remedy Entertainment finds itself in a stronger negotiating position. The company believes these factors will enable it to secure the right publisher, deal terms, and risk-reward profile that align with its interests and are optimal for the Control franchise. The studio will engage in discussions and negotiations with potential future partners in the coming months.
