This is in the Ballard neighborhood of Seattle. The company I work for built the building around the house. The house was owned by an old lady named Edith (who was a spy in WWII). Unlike in the movie, which was inspired by this house, she became great friends with the contractors superintendent. The real Up house

Here is Wikipedia's article about Edith Macefield and this house. One of the many interesting parts in that article is:

On May 26, 2009, Disney publicists attached balloons to the roof of Macefield's house, as a promotional tie-in to their film, Up, in which an aging widower's home is similarly surrounded by looming development. However, scriptwriting and production on Up began in 2004, two years before Macefield's refusal to sell to the property developers.
