Joey, do you like movies about gladiators?

I used to travel alone in the eighties and nineties as a child, and the pilots would always invite me in the cockpit and give me 'wings' - a pin basically that they all carried for some reason. It was really cool of them and helped alleviate a lot of my nervousness.

It's every mum's worst nightmare - something going wrong for your kids when you can't be there.

So mum Jen White, 29, was touched recently when a pilot went the extra mile to let her know that her children were going to be just fine.

She was waiting at the airport for her children's flight to take off, when staff asked her to head to the window.

In the distance, she could see her children cheekily waving from the cockpit - after the pilot found out they were taking his first flight alone.

Grant White, eight, and his sister Faith, six, were flying from Denver, Colorado, USA to Seattle, Washington in order to see their grandparents.

Mum Jen says she knew her children would be absolutely fine but was touched when the pilot ran back through into the airport to alert her to the sweet scene.

She couldn't believe her eyes when she spotted Grant and Faith inside the cockpit of the plane, waving goodbye, and managed to snap her son on camera.

Jen, from Daphne, Alabama, praised Southwest Airlines for the sweet gesture.

She said: "They let me walk the children up to the jetway, and I felt confident they'd be okay, very similar to riding a bus.

"They were the first on the plane, and the pilots took them both right into the cockpit.

"I was sitting in the gate waiting for the plane to take off and was scrolling my phone when someone tapped my shoulder.

"I looked up and immediately thought my kids had done something wrong or were crying.

"He instead, lead me to the window.

"Both the kids were on either side popped out and were waving a blowing kisses, and people waiting to board.

"Behind me were saying 'take a picture!', I fumbled for my phone and in the meantime, Faith, my daughter, popped back in so I just snagged Grant."
