Edit: My point is that Adidas does make rubber-soled shoes for kids, and some styles are pretty much the same price as these foam-soled ones. Generally as someone who has always used and abused shoes, I can't begin to understand why people continue to buy the foam crap, especially for kids that use and abuse shoes. It's foam and mesh, it will wear out quickly.
I don't know if things are as bad these days, but the quality of children's shoes during my childhood was absolutely awful. I was stunned at the difference in comfort and quality when I started buying adult-sized shoes.
Any time the customer is not the end user, there is room for shenanigans.

Don't buy them foam shoes, buy some Sambas or shell-toes that are bulletproof.

They will not, because people are buying them. Check the specs of the shoes before you buy, and don't get anything with an EVA outsole.
