This is so weird. He helps the egyptian military on behalf of a businessman who owns a halal meat business. In response, Egypt makes that guy the only authorized foreign halal meat vendor from the US to Egypt. There were like 5 before.
The USDA raises objections to this because it is concerned the monopoly will reduce meat supplies to Egypt and raise prices. So Menendez calls the USDA and tries to strong arm them.
Like I can't imagine a sitting US senator strong arming some USDA analyst over religious meat
