FAITHORN, MI -- A toddler who wandered away from her family home was found sleeping in the woods with her family pets serving as her pillow and protector. According to the Associated Press, the 2-year-old girl was discovered missing from a home in Menominee County around 8 p.m. Wednesday.

A search for the child began involving drones and police dogs while also utilizing local police and citizens to comb through the wooded areas around the home. About four hours after the search began, the toddler was discovered in the woods, roughly 3 miles away from her home.

“She laid down and used one of the dogs as a pillow, and the other dog laid right next to her and kept her safe,” Lt. Mark Giannunzio said Thursday. “It’s a really remarkable story.”

The dogs had followed the girl out into the woods and appeared to have stayed with her for the entire journey.

The trio was discovered by a citizen who was using an ATV to navigate the woods. The girl was examined by medical personnel and was reportedly in good health.

Imagine being the fella that found this little girl and dogs safe. I bet he'll ride that high for the rest of his life and rightly so.

I might not be be alive today if I hadn’t had one of my golden retrievers with me when I wandered off into the woods when I was a kid. They were able to find me using my dog’s mate to sniff us out. I was like 4 at the time.
