A dude I was stationed with died in this part of the attack. His Italian wife had only been in the country for less than a year and his daughter was single digit months old when he was killed.

After it hit, and we got the all clear, my Sergeant and I hitchhiked down 395 to his apartment. Still think about it to this day.

My cousin who’s 15 years older than me (I think), was a firefighter (he’s still alive) that responded to the pentagon attack.

I remember I was 11 when it was 2002 and I was visiting family at my aunts house in Virginia, he thought I was out of hearing range and recanted the events from that day.

Absolute hellscape. He described breaking down bathroom and office doors, only to find people completely frozen in place. IIRC, he basically described that these people were in rigor mortis of sorts from the O2 becoming completely sucked out. They’d break into an area and shout for people to get up and flee, but people just sat in their chairs or in bathrooms, already deceased.

I can’t imagine doing that shit in my fucking 20s. Trudging through absolute twisted hell. Just look at that fucking picture. I’m not sure how he’s an intact person now. There’s a respect towards him that won’t ever be shaken.

Fuck
