Hasbro wants Transformers games on Game Pass, but believes Activision has lost the files

Hasbro would love to see the Transformers games that were once published by Activision make a return, and so would we.

If you’ve had trouble finding certain Transformers games that were released during the Xbox 360/PS3 era, that’s down to some being delisted when Hasbro’s contract with Activision expired back in 2017.

The potential return of the best Transformers games

Attending San Diego Comi Con 2023 was The Transformers site, TFW2005, who were also involved in a Q&A with Hasbro. During the Q&A session, the Hasbro team were asked whether or not it is “possible to re-release the Activision TF games to coincide with Gamer Edition?”

In response, Hasbro explained that: “sadly, apparently Activision’s not sure what hard drives they’re on in their building. When a company eats a company that eats a company things get lost, and that’s very frustrating. Hope is that now that the deal is moving forward with Microsoft and Xbox that they’ll go through all of the archives and every hard drive to find it all, because it’s an easy Game Pass add. We want those games back up for people to have a chance to play.”

It seems that hope isn’t completely lost as it appears to be a matter of tracking down the relevant hard drives, rather than the games being gone forever. Once again, this highlights the alarming position that game preservation is in and how many games continue to be lost to time.

A recent study conducted by the Video Game History Foundation found that 87% of classic video games are now inaccessible, with the situation continuing to decline.

The fate of the OG Transformers games seems to lie in the hands of Activision and potentially Microsoft when the acquisition is completed.

I'm still waiting for "Transformers: Devastation" to show up again. Transformers beat-em-up/combo game made by PlatinumGames must be really good.
