Sondy was heading into Kingston on Highway 2 around 8 p.m. Monday just east of Canadian Forces Base Kingston when he hit something on the road.

“I knew right away that the tire was blown,” he said. “I pulled over to the side and, you know, I saw it. OK, I need to get that fixed. And then afterwards I went, just out of curiosity, to look and see what I hit, right, to maybe get it off the road.”

What was waiting for Sondy in the middle of the road was a 100-ounce bar of silver.

“I couldn’t believe it did that to my tire,” Sondy said. “I must have hit it at a weird angle.

“Right away I looked at it and I saw .999 silver, so I knew this is not normal. That thing weighed about five or six pounds. It was quite heavy.”

On Friday, silver was selling for a little more than $26 per ounce, so the bar Sondy found was worth more than $2,600.

He doesn't even get to keep it if they can't find the owner. The police department auctions it off and keeps the money.

Shit like this is why you don't turn thing over to the police.

That's bullshit. If he was forthright enough to give it to the police to find the owner, then the police should give it back to him if they can't do so.

(also, I personally would have kept it for the repair of my tires)

Apparently I need to swing by Kingston, they have bars of silver just lying around!
