The Russian command in Donetsk Oblast has forbidden its troops to retreat – under the threat of being shot, according to a new intercept released by the Main Intelligence Directorate of Ukraine’s Defense Ministry on Telegram messenger on Sept. 19.

According to intelligence data, Russian troops tried to conduct a counter-offensive on Ukrainian positions in the Bakhmut area.

Artillery and multiple launch rocket units of the 4th Separate Motorized Rifle Brigade of the 2nd Russian Army Corps carried out the attack.

However, enemy units began to withdraw from their firing positions after Ukrainian defense forces returned fire and began to advance.

“At the same time, they (commanders) refer to commander’s order No. 222,” reads the report.

“Apparently, it is analogous with (Soviet dictator Josef) Stalin’s infamous order No. 227 of June 28, 1942, according to which Soviet soldiers were shot at … (if they tried) to retreat.”. »

BERLIN (AP) — German customs officials say a trail of slime led them to a stash of almost 100 giant African land snails and other items hidden inside bags at Duesseldorf Airport this month.

In total, officials found six bags containing 93 giant snails, 28 kilograms (62 pounds) of fish and smoked meat, and a suitcase full of rotting meat.

“Never in the history of the Duesseldorf customs office has a trail of slime led us to smuggled goods,” said its spokesman Michael Walk. »
