A CNN correspondent covering the school shooting in Uvalde was threatened with charges of trespassing if he and his crew didn’t leave the school district’s offices.

CNN correspondent Shimon Prokupecz shared a video of Uvalde Independent School District Police officers telling him to leave their office or face trespassing charges and that officers from the Uvalde Police Department were on their way to enforce those charges of trespassing if reporters didn’t comply.

Mr Prokupecz had initially confronted Mr Arredondo outside the school district’s offices in Uvalde on Wednesday, where he probed the school police chief about why he has reportedly not been cooperating with the Texas Department of Public Safety.

According to the agency’s director, Steven McCraw, Mr Arredondo isn’t responding to their requests for a second interview from investigators.

Following this confrontation, the reporter then shared a video of Uvalde ISD officers outside the school building where Mr Arredondo had retreated behind earlier.

In the video, officers can be heard relaying to the CNN correspondent that he and his crew will be charged with trespassing if they don’t leave the premises immediately.

The Independent reached out to both the Uvalde ISD and the Uvalde police department for comment but did not hear back in time before publication. »

You read that right: The U.S. Supreme Court recently barred federal courts from requiring states to fix their newly adopted, but unlawful, congressional maps before the 2022 midterm congressional elections.

In Merrill v. Milligan, the Supreme Court in February 2022, stayed the decision of a lower court that ruled Alabama had improperly redistricted its congressional seats.

The Supreme Court left Alabama’s congressional redistricting – deemed a violation of the Voting Rights Act by the lower court – in place through the 2022 midterm elections, without deciding for itself whether the maps are unlawful. »

Republican Congressman Blames Mass Shootings on Women Having Rights

As Jezebel’s Laura Bassett noted, that‘s a pretty rich explanation given that you don’t typically hear about mass shootings being carried out by women who’ve undergone abortions, probably because mass shootings are almost exclusively the domain of men, a not insignificant number of which are violent misogynists (and racists and antisemites, etc).

The U.K. legalized abortion five years before the U.S., yet strangely, it doesn’t seem to have the same problem with mass shootings.

The former House speaker knows a little something about not having a backbone when it comes to the ex-president. »
