This is a tribesgirl from one of the northern most tribes of Thailand - the Kayan Tribe whose roots and traditions can be traced back to Myanmar into the Bronze Age.

There’s been some speculation recently regarding just how much of their traditions have been encouraged due to funding from tourism. I would like to know more about this if anyone has information on that.

My wife took me to this village recently. My camera stayed in the bag for the most part until I noticed this girl’s beautiful eyes.

I took this on the a7iii with the Sony 35 1.8

It is a beautiful photograph unintentionally documenting an abhorrent practice(the stretching of the neck). I was initially taken by the image until I remembered what was behind it. The whole question of whether to photograph exploitive practices (or even war crimes) is a more complicated conversation, which I am sure has been documented elsewhere.
