Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky criticised the White House for its refusal to help Poland send jets to the country as Russia continues its assault on Ukraine.
But Pentagon spokesman John Kirby shot down the effort in a statement on Tuesday.
“It is simply not clear to us that there is a substantive rationale for it.
Similarly, undersecretary of state Victoria Nuland said that Poland had not consulted with the United States when it made the announcement, despite Poland also being part of Nato.
Bu Mr Zelensky said that Russia has used missiles, aircrafts and helicopters in its assault on Ukraine.
“We are grateful to Poland for the alternative - for its readiness to provide Ukraine with combat aircraft,” he said.
Mr Zelensky has previously called for a no-fly zone over Ukraine, which the United States and Nato has refused to impose. »
