One night I was walking home, and saw a cat staring down the street. I kept looking at it asking them what they are looking at. Just as I turned my head I almost stepped on a cat that was just runned-over by a car. I said, "I'm sorry this happened to you." It was sad to see his buddy waiting on the side of the street.

Poor thing. Near a road perhaps? Looks like the dying one was either hit by a car or attacked by predators.
