A guy I knew that spent time in prison said there was a sliding scale of pay for inmates. The farm guys made the most. Still talking .25 cents an hour

I did a very in depth tour of this prison. These prisoners are mostly there for life. We are talking mostly rape and murder charges. These aren’t your typical weed charges. Many of them appreciate the opportunity to work outside. The farms are huge. Some do the farming. Some take care of the horses, some do building maintenance. I saw a chapel the prisoners built in only 2 days. It was something that contractors would take months to build. There’s a radio station that employs some of them as well. It was a very interesting look at what life is like inside that place. But again, this particular prison is full of some really bad people that have done some really bad things and aren’t getting out. Calling this slavery is ignorant.

These guys pine over getting out of their cell and doing something to pass the time. The jobs that let you go outside are the most sought after as the rest of your time youre inside the same undecorated, brick and steel building. Obviously they should be treated humanely and I’m all for minimum wage applying to prisoners who are willing to work, but faux outrage is doing more harm than good nowadays. Education and critical thought is how we are going to change these kinds of things.
