When you have a project meeting at 10, but have to defend the shogun at 11.

I have to go over there for work every now and then. The way they manage to keep their ancient culture alive in such a modern place is nuts... Can make stuff difficult at times working there. I'm in sales, and tend to like to think that there isn't an objection to buying that I can't overcome. Price too high, want to check out more options, don't like the wording of the contract? I can work with that. In Japan though I once had a guy say he couldn't buy because he still had to talk to another company he'd spoken with one more time. OK, common objection, I can handle this one. I ask why he needs to talk to them again, and his response is "because I told them I would, so not doing so would dishonor the spirits of my ancestors". And that one pretty much stopped me in my tracks. I have a pretty big arsenal, but none that can tell someone why they should dishonor the spirits of their ancestors. All I could really say was "Oh. Uh. Yeah. Guess we can't have that".
