I’m glad to come from a state where they are progressive on these issues. My sisters close friend works at an “at risk” abortion clinic. They recently had a 9 yo pregnant girl and grandma was advocating for an abortion. The girl lives with grandma because mom is MiA and there are no other close familiar relatives to help. Grandma is old and loves on SSi. The girl was impregnated by the grandmas boyfriends 15 grandson . Apparently the rape (I call it rape don’t care what anyone says because he had to have groomed her into the years of sex) has been going on for years. The little girl was hesitant to get an abortion only because the procedure required needles and she didn’t want any shots (truly someone who is a child would worry about that). Luckily they got doctors an therapist in to work with her and explain that not only do you get needles for childbirth but then you have to give birth and that hurts a whole lot more. In the end they were able to get her an abortion. And thank fucking so much for those people because a 9 yo having a baby is honestly the worst idea to ever exist. Especially when her familial support is one aging grandma who can barely support her. But Texas would force a literal child and rape victim to have this baby and pay for it the rest of her life and create more victims in her baby who would surely have a very awful childhood.

Edit: some of you are legit awful. I never expected this comment to blow up this way and many of the replies are horrible.

And then not help take care of either of them.

Some things people in the comments might need to know:

Pregnancy weeks don’t count as actual weeks since conception, it’s the number of weeks since the last menstrual period started, which is usually about two weeks before conception, variations are usually within 1.5-3 weeks before conception

Pregnancy test results aren’t reliable until the day your next menstrual cycle would’ve started if you weren’t pregnant, which means the day your period would’ve started, this is usually four weeks after your last period, variations are usually within 3-5 weeks and usually longer than shorter

If you have a long menstrual cycle, as in a five weeks cycle, you only have one week to get an appointment at an abortion clinic

If you have a longer menstrual cycle than that, well, then you can’t know you’re pregnant until it’s literally too late to get an abortion

Do you really think you’re getting an appointment the same week as you book? It doesn’t even matter what kind of appointment we’re talking about, there are always queues to everything

Abortion clinics are far apart in Texas, so most people have to drive far

The law is the same for rape victims, for people whose contraceptive methods failed (no method is 100% fail proof), and for people who didn’t have proper sex ed and simply didn’t know how things work (there are for real people out there who think that you won’t get pregnant if you pee after vaginal-penile sex, which is not true!)

If a rape victim is 12 years old, do you really think she’ll tell anyone that she was raped? She might not even understand what happened and she might not know that it can result in pregnancy (especially in Texas I presume, since it’s not really known for having good sex ed)

It’s possible to get pregnant usually around a month before your very first period, and pregnancy weeks still counts from around 2 weeks before conception

This law won’t stop abortions, it will stop SAFE abortions
