This obviously depends on the “poison.” Some things we develop tolerance to, eg by increasing the number of receptors for a substance or otherwise adapting (alcohol, opiates, etc). We can become dependent resulting in acute withdrawal when we don’t get those substances.

But that’s not how it works with every poison! Many poisons will just kill a little bit of you (some organ damage) in sub-lethal doses, and actually make you more vulnerable to future harm. Especially if you take something that damages your liver or kidneys, you’ll impair your ability to deal with various other toxic ingestions.
