As a soon to be teacher with disabilities, I often worry about this. I could always get EI if I take a leave of absence but then my spot as an educator in my room isn't secure.
I worked for a company that started a program where we could donate sick days to a colleague who had cancer. I asked why the company couldn't just, you know, make some more sick days for him. This was not well received.

We get an email every year asking us to donate our unused sick days to those who have long term absences due to sickness
And I'm part of a a union
