Guy I used to work with who was kicked out of the military and subsequently got himself a felony for something (don't know don't care what it was for), called me out of the blue and wanted me to purchase a gun for him because he couldn't. He got SUPER pissed when I said absolutely not. "He wouldn't do anything with it to get me in trouble"... Except you know, have me illegally purchase a firearm for someone legally not allowed to own one...
When I worked at a pawn shop years ago I had a situation that I think it what is going on here.
Notice they mention a run around for two weeks, they sent Mom to get the gun "they already paid for."
Felon "bought" the gun and filled out the 4473 for the background check. NICS flagged him as delayed so he can't go get the gun yet. This is the two weeks I bet. Mom goes in and tries the "Well, just run it under my name. Yes, it's actually for me and not the delayed guy that wants it."
I've seen that exact thing play out multiple times, typically they are dumb enough to come in WITH the denied person.
I've also had people come in, pick a gun, pay, do paperwork, and then respond "Oh well, I figured I'd try" when it comes back denied. WTF?
