This reminds me of how some office buildings have dummy thermostats in them because they know people want to constantly turn them up or down. When, in fact, the heating and air is pre-programmed from a unit not accessible to anyone but building management. Then they have to combat 250 people bringing in fans and space heaters to plug into the power strips in their cubicles.

My apartment is powered by one window A/C unit in the dining room that doesn’t cool down the back of the unit, and I’m not allowed to have any others installed.

In the winter, they blatantly control the heat and I have to call and ask any time I want it adjusted. They have been good about increases, but not so much decreases. Every spring it’s always way too hot for at least a month and they refuse to turn it off completely until May 1st (also the day they install the A/C), no matter what. By the third year I got a little pissy and asked why they’re arguing with me about something that’s going to save them money, and they informed me that it’s impossible to turn off the heat for just my unit, they would have to turn it off for all 4 units.

I really should move somewhere I can control my own freaking temperate again, but the price for the square footage I get in the neighborhood I’m in is too good to pass up at the moment.

I rented an Airbnb in Vegas, not a cheap one either. The owners had a lock box over the thermostat which was set at 88 degrees in the Vegas heat. The worst part was I got a text from the owner after removing the lock because there was a camera in the living room we didn’t see.

Edit: I put tape over the lens of the camera, and halfway through my stay, Vegas Police showed up. Turns out it was an unlicensed Airbnb and she got shut down.
