Poland in the 90s: Vodka everywhere. No real wine, just cheap Polish "wine" (a very loose usage of the term) made of fruit mass that was too putrid for jams. Some beer, mostly bad. Sure, you could get quality alcohol, if you were willing to give up half your salary.
Poland today: Vodka? What are you, a bum? Every gas station has more kinds of craft beer and Spanish/Chilean/Australian wine on offer than people back then could ever imagine.
