I remember when I read like this. All these comments talking about needing a test to prove the kid actually read the books have obviously never had the hours of glorious silence while the kid is jus chilling and reading. If my parents ever tried to "test" that I read a book, I wouldn't want to read anymore.
My mom did something similar, but the money was put aside into my "book bucks" so I could only spend my earned money on more books. It really encouraged me to read more.
I think reading stumped my parents when instead of staying up all night to play video games I’d read, or instead of doing chores I’d read. To the point where instead of taking my phone away they made me stay out of my room the whole day as punishment. Safe to say...I started obeying. Still pretty funny though, seeing my parents try to come up with a good punishment without having me stop reading...well because reading is good. I couldn’t stop laughing when they told my therapist and doctor about it, and they couldn’t stop laughing either. They’re like, “so...she’s reading too much? I don’t think you should punish her for that...no yeah not doing her chores is bad, but I don’t think taking her books away would be a good idea.”
