My buddy in uni was doing his masters. His masters tutor (whatever they’re called) said he’d never do a phd. He went to the next uni over and got his phd.
Most of the women I have worked with have similar stories and this is how they have explained it to me.
It isn’t that they decide to dedicate their life to spiting someone, it is that your reaction to the gatekeeping attempt helps your figure out what your passions actually are. Someone in high school is probably in the process of figuring out what they want to do, so if some asshole tells you that you can’t do something and it gets under your skin it’s a pretty good indicator that maybe you want to do that thing.
Also the fact that mediocre men on the internet have taken it upon themselves to be the guardians of the sanctity of a profession they themselves couldn’t do is... well there is a lot to unpack there

At my school they told me more than once, over and over again that I'll never amount to anything and boy oh boy they were right.
