McCain was Trump’s nemesis, but also one of his most reliable congressional allies.
His greatest achievement was convincing the world through charming banter and occasional opposition to his party's agenda that he was anything other than a reactionary, bloodthirsty war hawk.
Don't give McCain too much credit. He wasn't that great a guy. Sure he wasn't as bad as Trump, but that's a low bar to clear. He gets credit for being a war hero, but he should never have been in a plane to begin with, and he wouldn't have been if his father wasn't the admiral in charge of the navy.
