I've been there and can confirm. It is a glittering city in the middle of fucking nowhere (but more of somewhere than Boomtown.) They forgot its origins. Vegas was (and probably still is) a mobsters paradise

New Orleans works pretty well too. "Below sea level, close to the ocean surrounded by swamp, sits a crumbling city of smooth music and distinct food."

There is also this strange curse affecting the area, prohibiting the communication of discrete incidents happening there outside of said area.
