I'm surprised that In Finland some people speak only 2 languages since we have to study swedish and English in schools

Edit:I forgot that most Finnish ppl hate studying swedish and don't learn it

Luxembourger here, feel like this is a good time to share how languages are taught in my home country:

Luxembourgish is the mother tongue of Luxembourgers, but because half the country is foreign born or of foreign ethnicity, this group learns in it Kindergarten from teachers and by playing with classmates.

German is taught in first grade and all of your school subjects (math, biology, history) are also in German. German class is 3-4 times per week and is given the highest scoring weight on your report card.

French is introduced at the end of second grade. French class is 3-4 times per week and is given the highest scoring weight on your report card.

English is introduced in 8th grade. English class is essentially every day.

At this point, the absolute top students are also learning Latin.

In the 10th grade, all of your subjects aside from languages (math, biology, history...) are now taught in French. So if your french wasn’t good enough by now, it will be soon.

In 11th grade you have the option to learn Spanish or Italian.

I will add that, as referenced before, half of the country is ethnically foreign, meaning that on top of all of this, many people also speak Portuguese, Italian and various Balkan languages.

So this is how you get to 3.6 🙂
