The thing is that the founders intended for us to govern ourselves.

Honestly I have to imagine that if the founding fathers saw us today, using the exact same constitution we did more than two hundred years ago, the exact same (amended) bill of rights, the exact same electoral process, they'd kick us in the teeth for being stupid.

The whole point of the American revolution was to prove that we could write our own laws, and forge our own path. The idea that the necessities of today should be ignored for the sake of old dead men would have made those old dead men sick to their stomachs.

We know more about democracy and statecraft today than any of the founders knew, we know more about economics, and justice, and humanity than they ever did, we should be grateful for what they created, but that doesn't mean that we are beholden to the memory of them.

The founders wrote a constitution, not a gospel. These people need to stop acting like the two are one and the same.
