My dad was just arguing against this online the other day and telling everyone about it. Honest to god, if they paid $13-15 an hour you’d see me behind a grill for 8 hours in a heartbeat. But not for $10, it just wasn’t worth the time.

I was an assistant manager at a restaurant and we had this amazing utility worker. He was a rockstar on every shift. We offered him full-time and he had to turn it down. He had sole custody of his daughter and explained that if he worked any more hours his government benefits that kept his child fed and sheltered would be drastically cut and the amount he would make wouldn't cover it. It was so sad because he just felt so stuck.

The current way the argument is conveyed is horrible. If we tailored the message to be "why do you want to continue paying people $15,000/year?"

That might force people to change their thinking. 7.25/hr doesn't convey the same sentiment and emotion as $15,000/year.
