I remember once in secondary school, the school had messed up my free school meals and basically gave the free school meals to a kid of the same name as me who didn't need them (tbh I thought it was a little funny) the school assured me that I would be allowed to just let my account run into a minus and it would be fine. So one day about half way through the year I think I was sitting on about minus 25 or so. I go to buy my lunch like I did every day, it was a sandwich , water and a cookie. They give me my food and they make me scan my thumb (that's how we used our accounts) the diner lady saw that I was on a minus, physically took the food from my hand and said she wasnt a looked to serve me be because I couldn't pay, and they put it in the bin right in front of me because they weren't allowed to serve returned food.
I had never been more pissed off in entire life, I just stood there in shock and I never went to get dinner again at that school.
Because all schools are running under the government summer feeding program . Which is why everyone under 18 eats for free. It is a government funded program whereas usually it comes from the school budget.
When my brother was in primary school his whole packed lunch was confiscated because he had a cheese string in his lunch box. They said it broke school policy because cheese is fattening and unhealthy. His lunchbox also contained a banana and a ham sandwich but they took the whole thing and binned it. We weren’t a well-off family and it was often commented on that as children we were underweight so it was pretty fucked up that they let him go a full school day with nothing in his stomach.
