I first realized how crazy women have it back in high school, at a party when a girl-friend asked me to walk her to her car. I was like wtf?? Bitch you don’t know where you car is or something? Apparently some guy she danced with was following her around and she was scared. And here I am walking home drunk at 3am no worries while she’s scared to walk to her car like 30 feet away. Wild.
I had a man talk about me in a sexually explicit way in a public setting which made me end our date early, and since he was intoxicated and belligerent I asked casino security to walk me to my car. They declined because I had parked around the corner (yet another safety method) in a garage not under their purview.
8 snapped off fingernails, glass and gravel removed from my palms, a fractured nose, and a black eye later I determined I’m sick of being responsible for keeping myself safe. Fuck it I’ll just be a hermit and die alone if this is how dating goes.
ETA when he grabbed me and my wig slipped he became enraged thinking I was trans (I’m not but either way) and if you think trans women especially black trans women don’t live in fear of walking ANYWHERE you’re delusional.
