In the dark knight (2008) the old man being compared to the joker’s father is actually senator Patrick Leahy. Senator Leahy has appeared in 5 Batman movies and even voiced a senator in Batman the animated series. Easily the coolest dude in politics.
Something even cooler; I can't remember the issue, but there's a Batman comic arc where Batman fails to save a kid from a landmine in Southeast Asia, and Leahy used in congress to argue for a bill to do mine sweeps of large parts of Vietnam
Apparently all the money he makes from the cameos gets donated to charity, with most of it going to the library he used to read comic books at as a kid.

Funnily enough, Leahy is now third in line to be President, seeing as he’s President Pro Tempore of the Senate.
