Jack Daniel learned the whisky trade from an Emancipated slave named Nathan Green. Green served as a master distiller for J.D. up until his death and is thought to be the first African American distiller in America. Some of Greens family (his son, George Green, Pictured here with J.D) took up the family business are still in the whisky business till this very day!
