My grandpa, who was a radar operator back in WWII, wore the same style blue shirt, wool socks, black slacks and black dress shoes my whole life. A lot of my friends thought it was the same pair of clothes as they often saw him picking me up from school as a kid. God I miss him.
True story, when I was newly married I bought my wife a pair of sapphire earrings for Christmas and she was super excited when she opened them. They weren't fancy, they were from a commodity jewelry store at a mall but I knew her style and that she didn't have anything that color and i was so proud of myself. I told her to open the other box, and she did, seeing the matching necklace. And she looked at me, confused, and said is this a joke? Confusion washed over me and she said oh. You're an idiot.
Turns out I had bought her that exact necklace for her birthday. She saw the earrings and thought I remembered and bought her the matching set. Nope, I forgot, and spent too much money proving it.
