A whole generation that was butchered and damned.

Irish Warning:

"Did you leave a wife or a sweetheart behind,

In some faithful heart is your memory enshrined

Although you died back in 1915,

In some faithful heart are you forever nineteen

Or are you stranger without even a name,

Enclosed there forever behind a glass pane

In an old photograph torn, battered and stained,

Fading to yellow in a brown leather frame"

I'm gonna say this is the best war memorial I've seen, and I've been to DC and Berlin.

I lost a close young family member a while back, and for some reason thought about how in war time, more families than not were dealing with that incomprehensible grieving that my family was all at the same time.
