Be sure to give Flashpoint a look, it's a project to archive Flash Games, and allow playing them.

Back in the day, Flash and Shockwave were the only real interactive web elements we had.

Also, Flash kept an entire game aesthetic alive at the turn of the century. Just as EA was gobbling up publishers left and right, and gaming began to be dominated by blockbuster AAA games with lots of bling and little innovation, Flash games were one of the few outlets for cheap, fun, indie gaming.

Today's mobile games and even Steam/GoG Indie games owe a lot to the survival of those genres, made possible by Flash.
