WTF is sick time anyway? You negotiate the amount of days you will be sick when you get the job? And what if the year ends and you still have sick days left?
I work in the print and marketing department at an office supply chain, and we've had this one person coming in to get the occasional single black and white copy of his ID, sometimes proof of whatever, because he has stage 4 leukemia that has a chance to beat, so he's on chemo, but it's so expensive he has a gofundme. His gofundme has been so successful that he's been needing these copies to prove to gofundme that he is who he says he is.
I refuse to charge him for it. Not only would it be maybe 17ยข per page, but he shouldnt have to dole out any more money than he already is to the broken healthcare system.
He is the kindest guy, too, and he is always super grateful when I don't charge him for it. I really, really, REALLY hope he beats cancer, and he doesn't go completely broke because of it.
Fuck the fact that I feel the need to do this, too, even though it's relatively minor. Fuck the fact that he has to go out, into a store, during covid, with leukemia, actively on chemo, to get proof that he's not stealing the money and actually has cancer. God.
