We thought we had seen the last of Jared Leto‘s take on the Joker, but THR is reporting today that Leto will be reprising his Suicide Squad role for Zack Snyder‘s Justice League.

Announced earlier this year, Zack Snyder and Warner Bros. are currently hard at work on the “Snyder Cut” of Justice League, with tens of millions of dollars being dedicated to allowing Snyder to reconstruct the 2017 movie into his original vision. The “Snyder Cut” is said to be quite a bit different and a whole lot darker, with Darkseid notably featured in the movie.

Leto’s Joker did not appear in any capacity in the version of Justice League that was released in theaters back in 2017, and he’ll be brought into the film via the “Snyder Cut” reshoots.

Post-Suicide Squad, Margot Robbie’s Harley Quinn emancipated herself from Leto’s Joker for Cathy Yan’s Birds of Prey, and we of course saw Joaquin Phoenix memorably bring his own take on the iconic villain to the screen in Todd Phillips’ Oscar-winning Joker. How exactly Joker will be integrated into Snyder’s brand new cut of Justice League remains to be seen.

In Justice League, fueled by his restored faith in humanity and inspired by Superman’s selfless act, Bruce Wayne enlists the help of his newfound ally, Diana Prince, to face an even greater enemy. Together, Batman and Wonder Woman work quickly to find and recruit a team of metahumans to stand against this newly awakened threat. But despite the formation of this unprecedented league of heroes—Batman, Wonder Woman, Aquaman, Cyborg and The Flash—it may already be too late to save the planet from an assault of catastrophic proportions.

The “Snyder Cut” is coming to HBO Max in 2021.

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't interested at all, but still, a little odd to see Leto coming back. I assume Birds of Prey was trying to "undo" Ayer and Leto's joker.
