If you look at Australian flora, they're actually designed to take advantage of the frequent fires as a part of life. This is taken to the extent that some plants have oil in their leaves, and others have seeds that only sprout when there's recently been a fire. We can even take advantage of this by counting the years on a grass tree to see when fires have ravaged in the past.

EDIT: this does not mean the recent fires are ok or are natural. The increase in severity is a direct cause of climate change and we should take it as such. I just thought it'd be a nice fact about Australian biology to learn because trees are cool.

Most plants do regrow- yes- but unfortunately the issue with the fires this time was that they burned places that normally never burn. When people said it will take a long time for these places to recover- it wasn't talking about normal scrubby bush like this.
