If you like seeing these pics of planets and space, you can always find my gallery on Instagram @thevastreaches

This is a space event you should have your eyeballs on. We only see Mars this big and bright once every 2+ years.

This is how it appeared on 06-OCT-2020, as it reached its point closest to Earth. This is when it appears largest to us because we are so “close” (around 62 million km 😆). The Red Planet will now recede in the coming weeks as we speedily fly-by. It’s still extra bright in the midnight sky, so go take a peek if you can.

I recorded insane amounts of footage, but I couldn’t resist quickly editing and posting this shot of it in its “humongous” glory the day we passed by. Though, it’s still actually extraordinarily tiny in the sky.

Things you may notice: - The white dot on the bottom is the southern polar ice cap. - The bluish haze around the edges is caused by water vapor clouds in the atmosphere. - The darker areas of the surface are more exposed rocky terrain, whereas the smooth lighter areas are covered by fine dust.

Jealousy overload! To capture that and seen it with your own eyes must have been amazing.
