During my first year of college, so much happened that was out of my classmates', professor's, and my control. My professor even said it was one of the worst years he's ever seen, even with other classes, and he's been teaching for roughly a decade.

Instead of making us stick to strict deadlines, my professor told us to just submit our work whenever we could as long as it was before August, and would frequently use his own time to open a room outside of his usual work hours if requested, so students could come in for more help and to get more work done if they couldn't work at home.

I am forever grateful to him for doing that. I'm not sure if I would have passed my first year if he hadn't done that. He sounds exactly like prof #2 here. So yeah, be like prof #2.
