It doesn't need to keep getting proven, yet it still is proved day after day. There is no "good" protest to these people. At best they want to just ignore the problem of racism in this country and don't want to have to face it in any way, especially if it inconveniences them. At worst they're actively cheering it on.

Doesn't matter if you're marching, kneeling, rioting, having a moment of silence, wearing a shirt or posting a hashtag. So fuck their approval, might as well go with what works.

Taking this from a comment user McPeePants34 made last night:

“Stop mixing politics with my sports. I watch this for an escape from the problems of the world.”

That’s literally the point snowflake. You want these black men to ignore their own experiences of racism for your entertainment. Buck up buttercup, they’re done shutting up and dribbling.

Edit: lot of responses to this comment, some of which appear to come from a genuinely decent perspective and not just racists foaming at the mouth, so I figured I’d respond to the common themes:

Sports, especially the NFL, have never been devoid of politics. The national anthem, military celebrations, jet flyovers, etc. are all political celebrations. You were fine with politics getting injected into sports as long as they were politics you agreed with. The issue you’re experiencing now is that these are politics you don’t agree with for once, and it understandably can be frustrating. Looking to sports for escapism is a great example of privilege that most people have never taken the time to acknowledge. Lots of people cannot afford to take a timeout from the real world. Real problems don’t stop being real just because you want to watch TV. For those of you looking to sports for this “escape” (the comment below beautifully articulates how this should really be rephrased as “ignore”), I’d be willing to bet you’ve dismissed the notion of safe spaces in the past. I hope you’re able to grasp the hypocrisy here. More importantly, there were 3 hours of football last night for you to escape to. There was one player who didn’t stand for the anthem, the moment of unity was like 10 seconds long, no flag was present, nobody kneeled, there was no anthem playing, and people still booed. This was all followed by an entirely normal football game. I hope you realize your main argument on this matter just took a big shot last night from the “it’s wrong to disrespect the flag” perspective. At this point, people are just booing social justice. “Stop calling me a racist you millionaire” crowd. I get it, it sucks to struggle to pay the bills while a literal half billionaire tells you systemic racism is a real problem white people don’t have to deal with. This is an incredibly relatable and understandable reaction, but it’s also misguided and reactionary. Example, Jeff Bezos (the renowned humanitarian that he is) decides it’s time to tackle an issue with his wealth; let’s say colon cancer. Jeff dumps hundreds of millions into ad-buys, fundraising campaigns, activism movements, social media campaigns, and sports appearances. He spends so much money the NFL can’t say no to him getting a month dedicated to fighting colon cancer the same way Susan B. Komen does (for those still reading, you really should donate to a different cancer charity, but that’s beside the point). There’s even pregame events to champion the efforts with Jeff in appearance. This is probably annoying for some folks, but it’s ultimately a good cause which deserves more attention, saves lives, so almost everyone smiles and claps along for a few minutes before kickoff. I mean, what else are you going to do, could you imagine booing an anti-cancer event??? At this point, we can see the fact that these athletes are wealthy is not the issue. Almost everyone would be fine with the richest human alive injecting his anti-colon cancer agenda into football as long as it doesn’t disrupt the game they love. Certainly nobody is fucking booing. Now let’s say, as part of that campaign, Jeff decides to advocate for a plant based diet approach to preventing colon cancer (currently one of the single best predictors for colon cancer) and suggests those who don’t adhere to that diet are asking for the disease. Well now you’re obviously uncomfortable because he’s telling you that you’re in the wrong. Now people boo. Is he right though? Of course he is, you just don’t want to be told you’re wrong. Exchange this analogy for climate change, but keep everything the same, and now we’re in the same ballpark using politics many of you disagree with. This right here, is the heart of the problem. It isn’t that they’re rich, it’s that they are telling you an uncomfortable reality that you don’t want to hear; racism is a problem in this country today.

I’d also like to add that, if you are struggling, I feel for you. I’d also be willing to bet all the money I have that black NFL players aren’t the cause of your struggles. Direct that anger toward the institutions and people actually responsible. Don’t boo people advocating for the fight against their own injustices.
