The problem is that most of the time doing that is more expensive, more time consuming, takes longer to ship and you get way less when it comes to return policies.

It's hard to convince people to do that when Amazon offers an objectively better service.

Totally agree with the sentiment, but their service is totally unmatched. 2-8 days delivery really doesn't come close to competing with the 12-24 hours delivery that I get with amazon.

I am part of the problem.. I usually do this, but the opposite.

Most places it costs more at the actual company site, takes 3 weeks to be delivered with 12.99 shipping, possible bad response if you need to return it, etc.
