I’m in Alaska. I’m sure it’s frowned on outside of Anchorage, but we have pockets of accepting communities (Girdwood and Homer come to mind). We get some nasty protestors at Pride, but we have a robust community in town as well. It’s more of a live and let live state.

I have a nice story from Denmark that I'd like to share:

Two women I know were getting married. They wanted to get married in the local church, but the priest wouldn't wed them due to his personal beliefs. However, he said that they were welcome to use his church and find a priest willing to wed them. They ended up doing that. Some may think that it was wrong of the priest to refuse to wed them, but I thought what he did was decent. He may not believe what they believe, but he did not stand in their way. He suggested a compromise in which he didn't have to abandon his beliefs and they got the marriage they wanted.

I think that describes Denmark fairly well on this subject. Live and let live kind of culture. We are not without bigotry or backwardness, but for the most part, from my perspective, it's fairly progressive here. Our biggest issue is probably that our collective humour can be quite dark. We like to make fun of and laugh at things that we are not supposed to. From the outside, I think that can make us look insensitive and bigoted. But at the end of the day, we'll stand with you and support your rights to be you.
