I wonder if these are recycled ones. Like maybe they cracked during shipping or didnt pass a compression test or something. Precast is some pretty great stuff... and it's tough so these will last awhile.
My Dad was a civil engineer who worked on installing these kinds of pipelines in a number of countries in Sub Saharan Africa. One of the problems that developed was that the pipe would be fabricated and delivered along the route the pipeline was going to take. Months later, when the digging started, families had moved into the pipe sections and made their homes in them, and would have to be evicted so the sections could actually be put in the ground.
