Hi everyone,

Here's some information about the image. It was shot this morning in a heather area in the center of the country. We have a lot of these areas and they are in beautiful purple now. The best time to go is very early, even before the sun rises. I took this image actually quite 'late' as I was already on the spot when the sun was just about to rise. Here, the sun was already a bit higher. There was a little forest of pine trees that caught my attention because the light was hitting through it causing these nice sun beams because it was extremely humid. I framed it with the purple heather in the foreground.

Gear: Sony A7RIV, Tamron 28-75. I know people always ask gear, and my gear is 'expensive', but you an make these images with any kind of gear, even your phone :) (of course the quality will be a bit lower, but its really about the moment, not about the gear). It's all about catching the perfect light to make this kind of picture.

Some words about processing: All my images are shot in RAW format. RAW format doesn't represent real life. It's a flat 'boring' image with low dynamic range. In comparison: If you take the same photo with your smartphone and you 'don't edit it', its still MUCH more edited than my RAW photos. This is because your smartphone does tons of edits to your photo to try and make it look like 'real life' and sometimes more extreme. So yes, this image was 'edited', and so are all my images. Also, I have no issues with showing you the original as I am always very transparent. I underexposed the image to get details in the highlights to later (in postproduction) make it lighter and retain detail in the highlights. My goal is always to represent reality in my images, but I also have a very vibrant and 'fairytale' like style, which you can see in my images (some like it, some don't). I stay true to my RAW file, meaning I don't replace skies, put 'fake' milky ways etc (I have nothing against people who do that, but to me a photograph is a memory of a moment, and you lose that moment when you put different elements in your photo), but I do touch up the colours.

Feel free to check out my other work on my website or Instagram.

Cheers,

Albert

Beautiful picture, makes me miss the Netherlands.

Also "the heather in the Netherlands is currently blooming" sounds like a speech exercise someone would say before they give a speech or go on t.v. It flows well.
