As a RN, I have an insane amount of respect for my environmental team mates! These ladies and gentlemen are simply the best! Always take care of those who take care of you!

Unsung hero. It’s common to take a box of chocolates in for the nurses here in the UK as a thank you for the care. When my mum was in hospital I ( I work in a chocolate factory) gave a box to a ward cleaner. She replied “ is this for the nurses “. No hun it’s for you. I guess many people are simply invisible despite being critical to the hospitals. The girl never paused with the mop and cleaning ever time I visited. Underpaid and sadly undervalued.

My dad spent about four months in the hospital many years ago. The housekeeping staff were the kindest, most thoughtful people I encountered during that entire experience. One day when I was having a particularly sad time and sitting next to my unconscious father, this very sweet young woman came in to clean the room. I'd seen her before but it was clear we didn't speak much of the same language so I usually just said hello and left it at that. When she was finished, she approached me tentatively and said, "I pray for him every day." I became teary-eyed and thanked her. She then added she would pray for me too. It's been 10 years and I've never forgotten the way that she did her job with pride, respect, and kindness.
