Truth here. Although I may not like the Sidekick, we as a community to have a more open mind. Let 343i attempt to bring some originality and creativity to the franchise. They can fit within the mold of Halo but let them expand from the Bungie games.

The new weapons do different things and their aesthetic is intended to convey that to the player. Do we really want a Halo 3 Magnum situation where a gun’s look doesn’t convey what it actually does? I’d rather have the classic weapons retain their unique nature and be fit into a future sandbox than to see New weapons that just look like a variant of “the pistol” or “the shotgun.” Besides, we have a Halo: Reach-esque AR and a more classic looking BR returning. 343i needs to be able to communicate which parts of the sandbox are similar to previous games and which parts are new, and the new pistol and shotgun designs are necessary to communicate that.

343 added the SAW, sticky detonator, railgun, hydra, plasma caster + dozens of new vehicles in HW2. im all for new content so long as it fits the theme and doesnt make previous content obsolete

I don’t think anyone is against 343 inventing new weapons and expanding the sandbox. People love the sticky detonator, railgun, hydra, and plasma caster and people loved the zany weapon variants in war zone and personally I love some the promethian gun designs. And people are relatively neutral about many of the weapon redesigns and some are even loved like the fuel rod gun in halo 5. People don’t shit on 343 for being creative. People take issue with 343 outright removing things that are very recognizable and part of halo’s identity like the rocket launcher and now the magnum and shotgun. These new weapons could easily be additions to the sandbox.

Personally I take issue with the extremely generic look of the sidekick. It looks incredibly uninspired and doesn’t live up to the reputation of the giant it sits on the shoulders of. I am very neutral about the new shotgun and the commando.

Sure they’ll add the magnum in after launch but it won’t be a part of the campaign which is a little frustrating.
